Queen Spotlight: Kristin Cataldo
Designer. Creative. Boss. Athlete.
Kristin Cataldo is a freelance graphic designer based in Savannah, Georgia. And she is the magic behind the Fit for a Queen logo! I came to Kristin back in December 2018 with Fit for a Queen as just an idea in my head. I had the vision—but she provided the direction, carefully and patiently working with me to create a logo that was tough, feminine, and bold. Apart from her work as a designer, she is an athlete at Crossfit Steadfast. We’re often pushing each other to our “limits”, then going even a little further, because we both know we’re stronger than we think. It was a pleasure being her client, and even more of a pleasure to be her friend.
Kristin shares how being her own boss, and working hard in all elements of life make her feel best…
Meet Kristin!
Q: Tell us about K. Cataldo Designs!
Kristin: “I've been a professional graphic designer for almost 10 years now. Five years ago I left my full time in-house design job to marry my soldier husband and move to Germany. While stationed there I started freelancing, mostly for my previous company and a few friends here and there. After moving to Savannah in 2017 I continued freelancing. We decided to stay in Savannah and put down roots, and it was time to make a long-time dream a reality, and k.cataldodesign was born! So far my first few clients have been strong, independent women running their own businesses, or realizing their dreams (Fit for a Queen!) and I hope to continue serving other small, women owned businesses in Savannah.”
Q: How did you begin your fitness journey?
Kristin: “To be honest, I started mostly for aesthetic purposes! In my 20s, I would go to a "regular" gym, and over time I liked how I looked and felt. I didn't know much about actual training, but was always looking for new things to try, like yoga or different ways to get nice abs. My husband is VERY into fitness, and while we were in Germany, he got me into Crossfit. Once I started learning about really challenging my body and how to train properly to get stronger, I was hooked. I did it for about a year before having my daughter, and ended up taking 2 years off. I've been back at Crossfit for a year and a half now and I'm loving every minute of it. A HUGE bonus of being a member at Crossfit Steadfast has been meeting some queens like you, Ciara!”
Q: When do you feel most empowered?
Kristin: “Putting my full self into something that means a lot to me. Whether it's in the gym, working on my business, or being the best mom and wife I can be. The feeling of knowing I've tried my hardest always makes me feel amazing, and even more so when it brings me closer to my goals.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about yourself?
Kristin: “My ability to roll with the punches. Not much can throw me off guard or surprise me. It's served me well in travel, business, and being a mom. No one prepares you for that!”
Q: Any advice you wish you could have given yourself as a kid?
Kristin: “Don't be afraid of failure, or not being the best or most liked. My whole life I've had the tendency to shy away from challenges, thinking, "why try?" because I wouldn't be good enough anyway. I'm in my 30s, and only now truly realizing that sure, sometimes I'll fail, but if I want something I CAN and WILL get it, I just need to put my all into it. And you know what? It works!”
Q: What does being a “queen” mean to you?
Kristin: “To me, being a queen means always working to be best version of yourself.”
